Renewal Levy - August 7

At the April 23 Board of Education meeting, the Board approved a 5.9 mill NO NEW TAX renewal levy to go on the August 7 ballot. This is a 5-year operating levy that is due to expire at the end of the year. The State has made numerous cuts to the education budget and shortfalls are expected to be made up at the local level. This levy will help us maintain current staffing for the 2012-2013 school year. This is NOT new money; therefore it will NOT raise taxes. It is important for voters to know that this money is NOT related to the bond issue that passed in November. The bond money can only be used for the construction of the new High School and Early Learning Center and to air condition the elementary classrooms. It cannot be used for general operating expenses of the district. Early voting begins July 3, so residents who are planning a vacation during the first week of August should consider taking advantage of this benefit. Every vote counts!
