| Visual & Performing Arts Gifted Referrals |
Northmont City Schools assesses students yearly for possible identification as gifted in the area of visual and performing arts. Ohio Revised Code states that: “a student shall be identified as exhibiting ‘visual and performing arts ability’ superior to that of children of similar age” using a process described in section 3324.03 (D). Please see Northmont’s “Assessments Used for Gifted Identification” brochure in your child’s school office for more details.
Referrals of students may come from school personnel, parents or guardians, students, or community members. If you feel that your child is superior in any of the visual or performing arts, please write a letter requesting that your child be assessed, including the specific area for which you would like assessment. The letter should be sent to Ms. Lisa Fellers, Coordinator of Gifted Services, 702 Albert Street, Englewood, Ohio 45322. All letters should be received by November 20, 2009. |

| Combat Those Germs! |
In light of all the information in the media regarding the H1N1 influenza, we have had questions regarding the use of hand sanitizer at school. This is the next best thing to washing your hands with soap and water. We are encouraging our students to wash their hands often, which is the best way to prevent the spread of many common illnesses.
We have also been asked if it is all right to donate hand sanitizer to the school. This is a welcome and great idea within a few guidelines.
- Make sure that the brand of hand sanitizer contains at least 60% alcohol, as some of the off brands do not.
- Unless you have a specific teacher that you want to receive the hand sanitizer, have your student drop it off at the office/clinic. We can then distribute it to the classrooms as needed.
