Safety Patrol 2020-2021 Updates

Union Safety Patrol 2020-2021

In the past, we’ve had the new patrollers start in April and train with the experienced patrollers and then attend our Safety Patrol Academy prior to the beginning of the school year.  Due to COVID, we will be adjusting how we will be handling this for the upcoming school year.  Below you will find the current updates so that you are able to keep up to date with our current situation.

Due to the movement to online learning at the end of last year, many students who may have wanted to be part of safety patrol did not have the opportunity to apply.  We will be sending out applications to current 5th grade students at the beginning of the year for anyone else that may be interested in participating.

  • Current safety patrollers - If you were part of safety patrol last year, you will automatically continue as a patroller next year unless we have been notified otherwise.

  • This year’s new patrollers will begin working with prior patrollers on the first day of the school year for their training.  This will allow those who are new to learn from our current group.

  • Safety Patrol Academy will be completed after school during the second or third week back.

  • Safety Patrol Duty Times:

MORNING:  8:30 a.m. arrive at school, 8:40-9 a.m. at their scheduled post. If your child needs to eat breakfast at school before duty more information will be posted on how this will occur at a later date due to COVID.

AFTERNOON:  3:30-3:50 p.m. at the scheduled post. Students must walk home or leave after duty. If their ride is not here, they go to latchkey to wait.

*Excellent attendance is expected and will be monitored.  If you do not plan to arrive for duty each day, all year long, please do not fill out an application.  Empty safety patrol locations are not safe for students arriving and leaving school.  Extreme winter weather, with temperatures and wind chills in the teens or below will not require outside patrol duty.  Absences due to illness are excused.

We appreciate your understanding of all the changes in light of this challenging time.  If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact either of your safety patrol advisors.

Thank you,

Mr. Mitrousis and Mrs. Evans
