Good Afternoon Northmont Families,

I hope that all of your students are off to a successful start to this school year.  I want to share with you an attached document that explains how parents can have access to their student’s Canvas account.  If you are not familiar with Canvas, it is the new Learning Management System that is being used in grades 4-12.  

You can set up the Canvas Parent app to notify you about missing assignments, course announcements, events, and it has a variety of additional features.  The Canvas Parent app allows parents the ability to see what their child sees in the class.  If you have any issues with this technology, please email  ipadinfo@northmontschools.net.  Finally, there are three videos that may assist you with the Canvas Parent app.

August 6, 2020 (to parents on Shared Residency Only)

Dear Parent/Guardian:
This is a reminder that you enrolled your student in Northmont City Schools with an Affidavit of Shared Residency. In order for the district to verify your current address and for enrollment with an affidavit, it is necessary for you to complete and return the Affidavit of Shared Residency Form. Due to Covid -19, we are asking for these forms to be submitted electronically with the student’s name in the subject field.

If you have not already done so please fill out the form that was mailed to you and upload it to affidavits@northmontschools.net along with the supporting documents.

All of this information can be found on our district website. Please click on the enrollment tab then the link located near the bottom of the page entitled click here to download Affidavit of Shared Residency. The deadline is August 18, 2020. Good evening Northmont families,

My name is Jenn Mills, the district’s new Family Engagement Coordinator. I am thrilled to work for such a great district!

A team of teachers and administrators have been meeting regularly throughout the summer to plan for the 2020-21 school year’s Remote Learning Academy. Spring offered us a unique opportunity to work remotely with our students and figure out what worked and what didn’t. Our plan is to integrate what worked well with some new platforms to give our students every tool to succeed in this uncharted time. The team is currently working on plans to support the various needs of families such as having evening times available for students and teachers to meet virtually. The team is also working on teacher schedules that will include times for them to virtually meet with students on a regular basis. iPad distribution plans are also being revised and updated. We will continue to communicate updates with families as schedules are finalized.

Good evening Northmont Families,

Tonight the district needs to share a significant update and changes regarding the restart of school for the upcoming year. Current data indicate the number of COVID-19 cases in our community are increasing and continue to impact our own employees who are essential to the reopening of school. Based on the recommendation from Public Health Dayton-Montgomery County and the Governor’s Level 3 indicator for our county we will begin the school year remotely.

Northmont will delay the beginning of the school year for students until September 1, 2020. When school begins on September 1, all students will be learning remotely. In the meantime, we will expand our ability to implement robust remote learning options with more staff training. The district is announcing this now to give working families time to make arrangements for students being home during the day. This was an extremely difficult decision because we know the strain this puts on our families but the district must ask families to make arrangements for remote learning for the first quarter (September 1st- October 21st).

We know this is a burden to many families, but please respect this difficult decision as we look to keep our community as safe as possible in these difficult times.

Yesterday afternoon, Dayton & Montgomery County Public Health released Recommendations on Montgomery County K-12 Schools Reopening.

Northmont is processing the information released and will talk with our partners and revisit our current plan to see if any changes are needed.
